I cant say if I will answer your question in complete sense. However, OPen Source by definition is a wonderful concept, especially after the advent of the Internet.
As I understand Open Source (OS) is a collaboration platform allowing maximum transperancy. In other words, sharing of knowledge, whci is a imperative concept to enable true KNowledge Management.I know of one such online collaborating platform(TWIKI; http://www.twiki.org or www.mindspring.com/~peterthoeny/twiki/) on the Internet. Perhaps, this would help you out in your pursuit of KM study.
Happy exploring.
