Greetings Joke,
I suspect my criteria may lean more towards the people skills than the process or technology activities commonly included in KM profiles.
- A strong identity - ability to give and take critique and learn from errors
- Sound knowledge of epistemology - know appreciate and apply the differences between information and knowledge
- Empathy for learning and ability to assist others to achieve their learning goals
- Excellent personal networking skills - including contact with KM thought leaders
- A feel for collaborative technologies - the important functionalities and experience with community facilitation
- Deep knowledge, experience & understanding of communities of practice - how to establish seed and motivate collaborative action
- Fundamental appreciation of KM theory and strategy - so it is possible to discover opportunities, leverage advantages and apply knowledge related innovations
A knowledge manager requires a measure of autonomy (budget), strong executive support & evangelism, patient stakeholders and the authority to change company rewards, hiring and recognition profiles.
