Hi Gautam and Katie,
Thanks for the comments.
I like to compare KM with SW.
Before OO technology, it was functionalized decomposition. Little communication between units. It is similar to the organization structures in past decades.
All of sudden, organizaions need cross depts and organization wide communications. (share information both inside and outside people's head) Since organization are modeled as "functional oriented," the way of communication is "inter process communication.(IPC)" Many such scheme fails either because of too many IPCs or it breaks internal consistencies.
When OO replace FO in SW. Many IPCs become irrelevant. Communication between objects is alot easier. A key advantage is code reuse.
My oppinion is that current KM projets are doing IPCs without touching the organizational side. When we remodel organzitions with "OO" technology, the KM issues become very different.
