An organizational culture in itself is not good or bad. Depending on the goals and processes an organization chooses, the culture either helps or hinders them. Culture is the ideas, experience and notions that people bring to their work. Since today's market place is fast moving in terms of frequency at which products are released, how tough the competition has become etc, an organization cannot have a culture that is inflexible to meet the demands.

For example, during 1980s and 1990s, Apple Computer came with innovative personal computers based on smart user interfaces. But it lost the market to Microsoft because Microsoft was more dynamic in its processes, work culture. It was able to bring out variety of successful products that outpaced Macintosh.

Similarly, an example of success story is IBM. Since the rapid take over by personal computers, IBM diversified from Mainframes. Today, it has a number of different products in both software and hardware. Based on the revenues IBM announced last year, it is clearly able to mould itself to the changing trends and technologies. It was able to build an organization whose culture allowed to support this flexibility.
