Hi Dina
I addition to Denham's valuable response, I would recommend we bear in mind that there are multiple levels to each one of these practices.
At some practical point, overlaps should happen in the systems-engineering level of the business, if it is practiced within the same organization.
This is an almost requirement due to the infrastructural synergies sought within organizations, although discrete technologies could be utilised.I think the real differences would be found at the business-engineering level, especially in policy statements and focal areas.
It could happen that a single department fulfil all of the above, but each one to a differing degree.
If one wants to look at your question holistically, it could turn out that there is actually insignificant difference between the three concepts in terms of business practices, except for its desired outcomes. Thus these practices could potentially be on a par with any other practice.
KM, BI, and CI could all benefit by using the existing data within an organizational domain. It is accepted that data would be added as the need for deeper levels of information increases. This holds true as a general norm. All three has a common desire to achieve a particular level of knowledge/understanding within a particular domain.
I believe one should consider the drivers and expectations of these practices, in order to determine their practical differences within its domain.
I apologise if my message has added confusion to a straightforward question, but I hope it has added something more to think about.
Regards,
It all depends on how one needs to look at it.***
