Hi Joe,

I guess I didn't make myself too clear when I used the phrase "Office Politics". I was not refering to minor things in the range of "He said, She said...." but more towards how your career in the organization is affected thru comparison with your colleagues.

E.g. Supposing you and I were assistant managers vying for the same promotion. I would be aware that the only way I can get the promotion is if you look bad in comparison to me. So no matter how empathetic I am to you (& we may have a great relationship otherwise), I will conciously sabotage your chances by witholding knowledge etc.

Unless the company culture rewards me for sharing knowledge & my chances of promotion depend on how much I contribute to the knowledge pool, I will not share knowledge no matter what my EQ is.

Take care,

Akhil
