Kate asks:
"What are the key areas I should be aware of when setting something like this up?"
- Start with minimal structure and let the emergent attractors drive focus & development
- Seed the conversations - get 5-12 'players' who are familiar with on-line dicussion to engage in interesting coversations, asking questions and attacking current issues
- Employ software that allows for linked personal profiles - to provide a feel who is talking and linear scrolling to stimulate deeper dialog
- Incoporate file upload functionality and a mix of synchronous and asynchronous formats
- Allow e-mail notifications - it assists with the transition to web conferencing
- Select strong participants to perform key roles e.g. keeper of insights, collector or questions, greeter, have someone summarize to help newbies catchup
- Get your leadership to 'walk the talk', i.e. use the functionality and do their 'work on-line'
- Follow the advice of experienced on-line facilitators
Good luck - engagement, dialog and thinking together is the heart of KM.
