Sorry to jump in so late in the day.....

You mentioned that the formula should improve the quality of KM because if "we know what we are doing then we will be better at it"

That said, how do you define formulas for other universal concepts like Love, Anger, Laughter etc.

Like knowledge, most of us are aware when we have/feel any of the above, but it is difficult to explain to a third party what exactly it is.

Instinct & experience show us how to manage and improve the above although we are mostly ignorant of what their constituents are exactly.

My question really is, wouldn't it make sense to create a set of rules of thumb that determine the ways to manage knowledge than actually create a basic formula that creates an equation on undefined terms? (with all due respect, your definitions of Knowledge, Information & Data are unique to you & your experience. they may mean different things to different people around the world)
