Let me put is a better way:
The knowledge we possess is structured as information + data. Information is the meaning, data is the carrier. The knowledge of the posting is expressed by the words I'm typing (info) and the words are based on the alphabet (data). So info and data are always linked.
So basically, we crystalize knowledge because we take what we know and give it a 'shape' using the medium of information + data. That's what we 'know how' to do, which distinguishes our intelligence from a lot of other forms of life, at least in terms of diversity.
