No, far from it.

I think that McDonald's workers, just like all shift workers, have the ability to understand and innovate the processes in which they work.

Knowledge is created and shared inadvertently in environments like this - the burger boy showing someone how to get the last bit out of the mayo jar, or suggesting they put less lettuce on the burgers, etc.

All employees have the potential to add value to the process - the problem in an environment with temp workers is the motivational aspect: WHY would workers want to give their knowledge to an organisation they don't really feel part of because it's not "a real" job/other such feelings.
