Hi Robbert,

If you consider what makes McDonalds a successful organization, its giving a consistant product as fast as possible without error. (e.g. everything is predetermined like the number of french fries to be cooked in the amount of oil at a fixed temp for a fixed time)

in such a case, the end worker, does NOT have to think or be creative, the faster he does the fixed job required of him he is successful in this environment.

the question arises if McDonalds will be benefitted if each worker continually stops to think about better ways of acheiving the job. will that not cause productivity losses?

even minor changes in the work quality based on the indivdual employee's input may snowball into major jams in the predefined system.

Any input from employees would have to be taken off hours & modelled prior to see if changes in the way of working cause repurcussions in other areas of the process.

Take care,

Akhil
