Richard,
Great question and no easy answer.
From the outside:
- Agile and responsive
- Good stakeholder relationships
- Well co-ordinated and informed
- Innovative and market aware
- Forward looking and 'open'
From within:
- Focus on learning and personal development
- Support for experimentation and learning from failure
- Easy to find mentors, help, support and encouragement to share
- Well developed and maintained yellow pages, CRM and e-Learning programs
- Top executive walking their talk
Without action research, ethnography and knowledge mapping, i.e. internal observations, it would be impossible to assess the extent of tacit knowledge transfer, the real commitment to learning and the true value placed on sharing and innovation.
