Because truth is fundamental to knowledge, truth therefore would be fundamental to knowledge management. There's no way around it.

It all goes back to the search for meaning. The search for meaning is in part guided by knowledge, and in part, by truth. Truth is the intuitive aspect, while knowledge is the certainty. But you can't have one without the other.

'I know its true'. There's a lot of meaning in that statement. Why have the words 'know' and 'true'? Instead of just one word? Or, 'what do you know? Are you certain?'. You can know things, but if you aren't sure, then you don't really know it. So once again, the element of truth is the deciding factor, whether something can be considered as knowledge or not.

Truth is dependent on the individual in large measure, in the individual's assessment of outward circumstances. If enough individuals agree on something, they can be codified into laws etc.

But KM is all about individuals developing their ability to think and decide using knowledge, and knowledge is conditional to the truth. Not the absolute truth, but the intuitive truth. So truth has to be incorporated into the process.

Its all about learning how to think for oneself, ie, know thyself. That's what KM is about really. Empowered individuals, because individuals that can think for themselves very easily manage knowledge, and very easily develop technologies that manage information and data.

It starts with the individual. In fact, managing knowledge is really all about discerning what is true and what is false. Truth leads to power, and to empowerment. False hoods lead to disillusionment, weakness and succumbment.
