Hi,
It would be interesting to evaluate a person like Vincent Van Gogh along the success-value parameter. He definitely was not a success (committed suicide because he had not sold any paintings during his lifetime), however he was someone of value as he is universally recognised as one of the greatest artists of his generation.
contrast a company like Xerox. It has constantly been mentioned as being among the 'Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises' in the World, but it has not been successful in the conventional sense for a long time.
So to answer your question: Knowledge Management, like any other business practice is only a tool whose value depends on how it is used or misused. Success of your business depends on how you use the range of tools at your disposal.
I'll end with my favourite Einstien quote "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity"
Take care,
Akhil Shahani
