Hi Akhil,
Thank you for the suggestion. You have observed that: "Anything useful that saves my time is worth paying for." Will appreciate if you can share your perspective on this issue. What are the features deemed useful by the user community of Brint that can save users'/members/ time and effort? Current services of Brint include online search portals, discussion forums, event boards, job boards, and opt-in newsletter. For instance, the current free information model offers free search based portals for all users. What is the general feedback about converting this model to a subscription-based model - with monthly or annual fees? If we do so, what is the level of monthly or annual fees that would be fair and reasonable for the largest percentage of users who use Brint search portals. Similar issues relate to covering costs of other services based on some combination of registration, subscription, and / or service fees.
The point about individuals trying to find information and providing services for fulfilling their service needs seems appealing. We have been observing some interesting implementations of such practices in various other online communities that use free or for-fee models. There are various models of responses to such questions, some of which are used in customer support services and call center services in some companies. This model suitable for some contexts, whereas more peer to peer communication is desirable for a more community driven model. E-bay would fall in the latter category although many may question if it is really a community. Again this model could also be further refined based on some combination of registration, subscription, and / or service fees. Any inputs about specific member benefits and cost structures that you or others may be familiar with on other virtual communities or CoPs?
Any further ideas to develop the above issues that can cover costs, generate revenues for growth of services, and possibly provide avenues for various members to generate revenues and profits based upon their participation?
Looking forward to hear from you and others on these issues.
