I agree with your 1st and 3th rule, but are you sure about the second? What do you mean by growth? There are a lot of firms which manage to survive and to escape the rule of the inevitables without growing in size, with the quality of their products (for istance kinda "elite" production): the example of the Italian Ferrari car maker comes immediately to my mind.
Imho, depending on the market and business contingencies, even growth cannot be taken as a universal rule...
