My reply is as follows:

How would you learn anything if someone did not share what they knew via any one of the many communication channels humans possess? Channels such as technology, publishing, and lecturing all fall within the generic class of communication channels.

I'll have to agree with Denham., albeit from a more philosophical point of view. No sharing, no learning. KM cannot exist in a void of self.

On the other hand, I think there is an aspect of personalized KM, namely taking responsibility for your knowledge, in order to enrich and add value to existing knowledge domains within society, and to make things work a little better through understanding and application.

As a person, and an individual (2 different things) you have a role to play within the context of KM, wherever it may operate.
