Howard,
Thank you for posting this introduction to the group. This seems to be a good description of what has happened in knowledge management and some of the areas in which we need to be careful.
I wonder, however, how this introduction fits into the original question: Critically discuss the systems development process for the development of a new knowledge management process.
I also like Mezei's electrical grid description of knowledge in a corporation. Being a chemical engineer, I would like to offer a caution with this metaphor. Electrical grids only carry one thing: current. Knowledge grids, on the other hand, carry all sorts of knowledge. In fact, I wonder if anyone has produced knowledge maps of an organization which are coded with the type of knowledge that flows in the organization.
I imagine seeing an organization that appears to have good knowledge flow at the high level, but poor flow of specific kinds of knowledge at the detail level. Of course, there is also the question of whether some parts of the organization need the knowledge - maybe that could be another facet of the mapping process.
Please, Howard, let us know how this work progresses.
