In a nutshell, knowledge management is half the equation. There are two sciences involved.

1. The science of knowledge, which is completely tacit.
2. The science of KM which is completely explicit.

Together these two compontent form something big, like life, or business or communication. The interesting thing though, is that they're completely separate entities which need each other to function.

In other words, without knowledge their would be no KM (obvious perhaps), but without KM there would also be no knowledge (not so obvious).

They fit together like a battery (knowledge) completes a circuit (KM). Explaining it is what's left to do.
