Denham -- I start with wondering about the implications of: if the mind is not totally a manifestation of the brain, then what's missing? So the general guidance of parsimony says, go with the brain until it is clear that the brain can't cut it. There is, for me, a highly aesthetic aspect in this approach. Of course I have only faith to rest on, but I like the odds.

The richness of empirical work on the brain is quite extraordinary. Far more than location is involved. Some of this work has helped greatly with better treatments and understanding of mental illness, of Alzheimer's, of addictions, of the nervous system as a whole, of neural circuits, perceptions,... And this huge body of work generates its own culture -- the researcher's perspectives are increasingly aligned with the body oF work.

Over time I'm convinced that the understanding built by research will totally destroy the need for any direct or indirect homunculus. We will understand seeing from knowledge of how the brain processes the visual signals. This shift will probably mirror the shift from a God-centered to man-centered world, a shift created by Newton's work.

Over time we shall see.

You mention lost key opportunities in regard to DIK. I would be most grateful to understand what these lost opportunities are?

Regards,
Reilly
