Vidur,
Knowledge management is not a one day thing. It is a sustained effort from all the parts of a company. The KM strategy has to be tightly integrated into solving a business problem . Just to give you an example.. In Consulting we need to provide a framework for all consultants .w.r.t context, content and also the ability to re-usage intellectual asset. In such cases having best practices document in your knowledge repository is key to success else one will be re-inventing every now and then, resulting loss in productivity and operational efficiency.
So dont expect results to be day one. I have struggled with this aspect in past and it took me sound 3 years of work to ensure that entire organization is bought into this concept. As time passed by I use to generate matrix that showed me the usage of content by various consultants and I could track the productivity..hence over a period of time it was a win-win situation. I am not sure which stage your organization is ... but it all begins with strong conviction and desire to make things happen.. It also requires passion and leadership qualities to sell and resell the concept at all levels and then producing results to substantiate your concepts...I hope this helps you... Good Luck !!
