Hi Vidur
there seems to be needless hype currently on a subject which mankind has been well aware of and practicing since the days of Adam
As people here may be aware, I'm very much not an academic, nor a consultant, but work at KM internally for a relatively small (about 200 people) stategic branding consultancy. As such, must of my worry is about tacit knowledge, about getting people to think differently but still benefit from each other's experiences. I'm interested in the hype only in as much as it helps me to identify the best methodologies to get people to deliver the best solutions to clients and develop new business by sharing knowledge.
Sharing tacit knowledge is about getting people to reflect without having to have had the experience. You will have read about peer support sessions, which we've been running successfully for over a year. Successfully? I have to rely on what people tell me. Host groups report new thinking on client work, revealed new business opportunities, and increased knowledge of internal capabilities. Peer group are at the least interested in the breadth of work that is revealed, and connections are made that allow better solutions to be delivered to clients, future and present. Knowledge management - I'd call it Thinking Management.
There's a lot more to be said here, and in a less rambling style, but I've work to do, dammit!
Chris
