Yes exactly, I fully agree. Communication is not communication unless it's read, or somehow perceived. And information, stored as bits only becomes knowledge when understood by human beings. And certainly the human-human interaction is a vital component of computer based KM.
KM is very promising because we don't need to keep all our information in our brains, we can have it in information management systems and when we can *manage* to access this information efficiently we can have a tremenduous amount of knowledge not otherwise possible.
Just recently I developed a learning module, the content of which I would never have been able to make without the continuous use of the internet resources during my work.
Another example is this Think Tank. Doing all this with snail mail and traditional hard copy publishing would almost get us nowhere.
