Hi Zaid,
Experts of AI in the USA were the first using the expression "Knowledge Management", it's been at the heart of their job for decades...However, their focus is on knowledge engineering and computation...Regarding business, Sveiby was the first using the expression "Knowledge firm". Sveiby's focus is on measuring knowledge, he implemented the famous "Skandia Navigator", launching the so-called "Intellectual Capital" movement in Europe. The American guru is without any doubts Nonaka with his theory of the spiral and conversion of tacit knowledge. Right now Nonaka's theory have been criticizing (Have a look a little below) for the simplistic view of knowledge they hold...The new tide tries to incorporate the social aspects of knowledge creation with the concepts of communities of practices (Wenger is the new guru) and social capital (a term with a long-standing use in sociology) popularised by Putnam...The term of "Knowledge Society" is by Drucker, an other influential guru, but he's more kind of futurologist than a business theorist or strategist...
Hope it helps...
Kind Regards
