A discussion with a friend of mine led to an interesting topic of conversation. The question is this...
What is the difference between an Information Worker and a Knowledge Worker.
I maintain that an Information worker is someone whose work involves the processing of information and thus can be largely defined by rules. Examples would include call centre staff, technical support staff and so on.
Knowledge Workers tend to base their work more on intuition and judgement and thus work to less rigid and harder to define as a "job." Examples here would include marketing execs, stock traders and true consultants.
Any other thoughts?
