Well, I don't think we need best practices at all. At least, we don't need them in the way they are dealt so far. For example, look at the hardware market. You have two different organizations, both successful: Dell (commodified products) and HP (personalized products). Do you know the RBV theory? It says a simple thing: your company will be successful if it has some kind of uniqueness. You will never be successfull just copying the others!!! I can propose another approach: look at all your competitors and do something different!!! You must implement a different practice, and not a best practice.If you want to read such a great critical article about best practice and benchmarking, read : "What can an apple learn from an orange?
