For starters, THESE people number more than you - thus you are a minority and have less social voting power.

Secondly, did you negotiate fair rates, and do you offer incentives for extra hours or above-average quality work? Are you loyal enough to these people to argue for loyalty in return? Do you manage them like robots and then complain because they disappoint your standards, or do you treat them like people who perform differently every day, depending on their current life ecosystems?

Do you see your relationship with them as a give and take, understanding that sometimes you will give more and other times take more, running a model of an eventual balance as opposed to an hourly, weekly, or monthly balance?

Truth is, I have learned that a maximum of 3-5 percent of employees are untrustworthy, and those are the ones one needs to weed out rapidly as they slow the whole team down.

The rest are just regular people who enjoy participative management and to carry on with their lives after earning, and I mean earning, a living.

Finally, I don't know about you and your employees, but I am sure if you sat down to talk with them, understanding their personalities, strengths and weaknesses, you could get a much higher rate of performance out of them by allocating the right jobs to the right kinds of people, and rewarding them accordingly off course. :-)

All the best,

Rob
