Yes, commercial KM is overrated and only focuses on where the customers are foolishly spending the next buck, which is mostly computer technology anyway.

On the other hand, KM in essence and spirit will remain with us for as long as we remain. It harbors concepts that are incredible powerful, and that can be applied by individuals or groups.

As for creativity? How many people do you know who can think creatively? Are they creative or merely copying what they heard or saw somewhere? How many inventions have so-called creative people hidden under their pillows, registered academically, or patented? I guess there are only so many creative practitioners in any field, and they usually don't have time to sit around and chat without a cause or passion to guide them. They are usually too busy trying to push the envelope of experience outward to discover where new ideas may flourish.

Why is creativity a no-no when it comes to commercial KM? It is not political correct in almost every and all organizations to question the status quo, unless one has been granted permission to question the status quo. The creative flames are doused as most organizations and people are too afraid it might upset all their hidden agendas or rock the boat, even though it might already be half filled with water. :-) Creative thinkers say Think or Swim, whereas the norm is to Sink or Swim.
