Hi Riva,

Interesting comments. Have you read anything from Mark McElroy who points to creativity as the goal of 2nd generation KM? You are correct most of KM does not make a clear distinction between information and knowledge and certainly is not too concerned with knowledge creation, awareness, cognition or innovation.

There is a huge literature on creativity (as I'm sure you are aware) and quite a few practices which KM could profitably adopt (visual thinking, metaphor and analogy, word associations, reflection & making connections). Perhaps the fundamental competency is as simple as asking quality questions and listening deeply?

An interesting area is collaborative creativity / community inquiry would you be interested to explore this?
