Hi Riva,

I'm inclined to agree with your perceptions and observations:
(1) way too much technology, too little cognition, communication and collaboration.
(2) Way too much focus on knowledge as an object, emphasis on existing explicit stuff rather than collaborating to create new knowledge. I'm not sure KM is ging away though.

Communities of practice
Are on the rise, so is appreciation and attention to tacit knowledge, collaboration and knowledge practices that help with trust building, sharing and increasing understanding.

Knowledge at work
We are seeing increaing attention to knowledge related activities in CRM, SCM, e-Learning, even in E-Commerce, business intelligence and strategic planning. We may have lost some of the glitz and glamor but let me assure you KM is alive and well in the trenches where the talk is around lessons learned, sharing expertise, building a common taxonomy (ontology), linking people to people through their common interests in key topics and concepts.

Is KM dead NO!, different sure!, more low level stuff, less about software, more about learning from peers, less about document access and more about interaction and emergence. Is this still an exciting and ever-changing domain, sure, is KM about to go away - never!
