Greetings Jandy,

I wonder how you are using the terms 'map' and 'library' here?. If you are talking about library as a place - a repository and map as a navigation guide, you may wish to look at ontologies and topic maps.

Ontology:
An ontology is way to see the world. It is a classifation and a categorization of the important aspects for users. So you would have to have a good feel for what the users need and wish.

Topic maps
Provide a way to locate, link and find the essential concepts and thoughts in a collection, a library or a repository. XTM provides a standard represenation for topic maps. As far as I'm aware tools for visual display are just emerging. It is possible to provide much the same effect with a linked graphic on a web site.

Linking a knowledge map to a library requires that you have an ontology, markup (tag) entire documents or parts of documents based on the ontology. Users would navigate the topic map and arrive at the content they needed either via serach or by pint and click. A new tool to assist you here is Quiver

Please let me know if this useful or if you have a different meaning & another question.
