As you suggest KM has been around for thousands of years not just hundreds, some call it business competitiveness, others call it market research, common sense, or best practice. What ever you call it Km is part of most things we do, the recent concentration on IT being able to deliver the benefits of KM has brought about the recent interest.
The hope that we could capture knowledge without having to work was too tempting to be left untried. However it also gives a the opportunity to provide frameworks, philosophies, tools and direction for KM work.
Yes there is hype but also truth, our challenge is to deliver genuine value propositions to stakeholders and therfore securing the position of the industry for the future.
