Rather than the question of what they prefer, perhaps what do they use and why.
Questions that are more specific will also produce more accurate results. eg "When you have to solve a problem and find out what to do, do you 1--Look it up 2--Ask someone in person 3---call someone 4--try and fix it youself 5--ignore it and it will go away.Perhaps also "Where do you experience the most frustration when looking for a solution 1--people who are not available. 2---Systems that dont work. 3---Not receiving a response in sufficient time. 4--Not having the solution internally. 5-- Not receiving enough information to provide the solution.
Specific questions which relate to normal day to day activities is easier for the stakeholder to provide an accurate response.
