I would suggest that you make like doing a business plan. Make whatever estimates you think are valid for the business your gurus can generate. then do the appropriate discounted cash flow and all that stuff. You could probably even do an ROI, in the sense that the ratio between total guru sales and guru saleries and overhead is an ROI. You might even look at whatever info there is on acquisition costs of consulting firms relative to size and revenue.
Keep your estimate simple, understandable and pragmatic.
Many universities are doing this sort of thing, MIT and Stanford come to mind.
By the way, having been a university guru once upon a time, I can assure you that the university never owned me, never came close. With possibly a few exceptions, nobody owns a university professor.
