Agreed. I feel that IT has no true value at all unless it satisfies a business object - perhaps that's obvious. I liken IT to the most fantastic tool in a carpenter's tool box. It may be the best tool in the world, but it is of no use to a bricklayer, who needs his own unique tools to do the job. In my experience, the biggest failure of KM is that it is often viewed as a pure IT solution and little attention is given to the business aspects or, more importantly, the human aspect of KM. Developing an IT solution is easy - changing corporate culture is a massive task.
