Hello,

Whilst I can sympathize to a degree, I can't see Mr and Mrs Ronald McDonald (retired pastry chefs to west coast gentry) of Bay View Drive, actually describe the type of automovile they want in terms that an engineer would readily understand.

Apart from, you know, "comfortable, reliable, robust, with AC, easy to get into and out of, soft ride, great stopping, something to stop the car from sliding if I brake too hard, and swerving, I don't like that in the XYZ Motor, and it's got to be cheap to buy, maintain and run and it's got to come with a life time guarantee, and have somewhere to hang the coats and put the dog".

There, thats my end users for you, and what do they get from IT .... "on screen xyw001 in process 5635 you asked for a combination of process 676 and HGF, thats why the window looks like that, now if you aligned BPR and TQM with my ....." etc. etc.

For forty years the British motor industry made cars they wanted to make rather than those that people wanted, result: loads of German, Japanese and Spanish and French cars on the streets of London.

Cheers,

Martyn
