The knowledge 'flow' is sustained by a business when KM is practiced correctly. Which of course opens up the big question - what is correct practice? Then again, what is knowledge 'flow'? I think that the stagnation and ultimate failure of any business can be directly related to the stagnation/failure of its knowledge flow. Knowledge may very well be the life blood of the organization.
To manage it correctly, it seems to me, requires an ongoing meaningful evaluation (I call this defining) of intellectual capital assets. I think there is no difference between IC and knowledge, except that when you consider the realm of business, it makes more sense to use a term like IC versus knowledge. IC represents the realm of knowledge which extends across or throughout the organization. Thus, we have to ensure that this knowledge or IC continuum is dynamic, and that the knowledge flow is continuous. So in a sense, the knowledge flow is the continual transformations of knowledge extending between the technological bits and human endeavours that characterize operations.
