Best practice, if any, may be perhaps explicitly focusing on multiplicity of views. What may be happening is that at some level, we have both convergent and divergent processes (Lockean and Leibnitzian vs. Kantian and Hegelian inquiry) at work. That is the core, if you may, that has been motivating the quest for self- adaptive, knowledge creating systems. Hence, we may be observing this process at various levels in the form of: dialog, creative conflict, creative abrasion, etc. We are coming to the issues with many different perspectives, however, the motivation has been to get a better sense of diverse views without any apprehension of censure or reprimand. Most other issues that I have mentioned are perhaps contributing to this core 'best practice.' However, such a process is emergent in nature: of course the facilitating 'infostructure' as well as 'infrastructure' may be contributing to it.
Although, I browse through every message posted on the forum, my motivation for involvement is based on decision factors such as:
Can I relate the current thread to earlier discussions and to other 'knowledge' nodes, given my familiarity with most discussions that have occurred on the forum: knowledge creation occurs as a result of relationships between the thoughts or ideas [akin to developing links between various nodes]. What is the potential of my contribution to the ongoing dialog?
Does the ongoing dialog really need my input? I may like to watch it progress until there is occasion or need for making contributions that add to the 'flow'. Or an occasional piece of information that may be of interest to the participants.
A picture of trapeze artists [like those one sees in circus acts] comes to mind... different artists take turns in engaging together and swinging and then letting go and resting on the sidelines... until again the process goes on... there is no pre-planned 'strategy' of involvement, it is more based on sensing the movement of the other artists, observing as the current engagement is continuing, sensing when the other artist will leave the hands and come to rest on the sidelines... and then timing the jump to catch on to the suspended arms of the artist swinging from side to side in the center of the arena... perhaps it relates to the notion of 'flow' I have mentioned earlier, which may also be visualized as the 'rhythm' of the social interaction on this forum.
