I think the burning question is this:
How can we predict and then consistently produce quantifiable results based upon the empirical evidence of the collective body of knowledge on KM?
ROI, which everyone is asking for, can't be addressed correctly until this is answered.
Models based upon anecdotal evidence (like most software vendors' ROI models are) are woefully inadequate, not to mention skewed.
We have to agree on metrics before we can combine our data. We have to agree on our terms and some basic framework issues before we can agree on our metrics.
This is what process management is all about -- predict & consistently produce. That should be what KM is about, but we as an industry are failing MISERABLY at that.
Now you know why I think standards are so important?
