You are correct these references encompass my thoughts. With that said: do we have to change terminology from "community" to "teams" to reflect where that control level is set? The community stays the same it is the coaching and outcome that changes. Same people could be in both groups why would you call them a team one time and a CoP another? To me this is wordsmithing; use whichever one you are comfortable with, but it doesn't change the meaning of community concept. I think understanding the role of community is another critical element of Knowledge management as is control.
By the way this thread has really chaged my attitude on the use of the expression Knowledge Mangement. Up to now I have been in the oxymoron camp. Now I grasp Knowledge management and salute "control" as a critical element. Thanks for helping me over this critical step.
