Martyn... just read your note/response...
While we're being cute, the process of feeding the dog represents knowledge which, along with the incentive represented by the unmistakable power of love - engenders PERFORMANCE ...
Now, if I were a house guest and you were on vacation, I would need the knowledge of feeding the dog... time, location, formulation of the food, do's and don'ts etc. Since these activites are well within my knowledge and skill repitoire, I can easily transform the information you supply into knowledge. This "feeding the dog" would then become part of a larger responsibility like "maintaining the household."
My badly made point is that once transfored into information ( see the model) Knowledge can also tranlate directly into Performance, given the proper incentive ( all bets are off if its a teenager - they aren't human)translates into Performance.
This can all be packaged for transfer. That is a knowledge asset! ( I think) Time to feed the cat.
