This may be true but, I look a KM from a different viewpoint than some on this site. I really don't see the academic side. I see it from the corporate IT perspective. I see "increased resolution times", "proactive problem management", "increased customer satisfaction" etc. From this I see customer databases as a big factor in satisfaction and loyalty which translates into (gulp) profit. These knowledge bases can be "sliced and diced" into valuable information for any number of uses. The sales staff wants to see this, IT wants to see that, marketing wants to see something different still. The IT staff doesn't want to see the number of thing-a-ma-jigs sold last month as the Sales staff doesn't want to see the number reboots. Hence Knowledge Management.
