I was asked to comment on what I do the other day (internally)
This is what I said
There are ways in which we can change the way that we do things, make things better, without having to go through the painful and expensive process of experience.
This is a lovely story:
Years ago a promising junior executive at IBM was involved in a risky venture that managed to lose over $10 million. When Tom Watson, Sr. called him in, the young man blurted, "I guess you want my resignation." Watson replied, "You can't be serious. We just spent $10million educating you."
How? I'm interested in shared reflection, learning about things other people have done, and groups of people doing similar things with different clients learning off each other on the fly. Half the battle is persuading people that they have something to offer and it's worth the time to give it. It's like, my job is going round with a hammer smashing walls down. But, as creativity is key to what we do at every level, we must learn from the past but not be trapped in it.
